That needs work

Spent time today trying something (vocally) I have been wanting to do for a while, but every prior attempt has left me feeling meh about it. I’m getting closer to what I want it to be and – more importantly – to feeling like I might just be able to pull it off. That’s probably due in part to the success I had with the Gonzo tune in class last week.  I’m getting more and more confident in some pieces of my voice (my lower head voice is still my nemesis, which limits what I get enthusiastic about trying).

I got close to the right idea today, but I believe I’m trying to go too far.  Simplify.  Time to simplify.

Ambition is a Dog Brain trait.  Dog Brain doesn’t take your assumptions of your own limitations into account.  It’s game to just jump in and try.  (Cat Brain will tell you how your past failures will be your future ones, and Squirrel Brain will just quail in fear at the unknown of trying something new.)  In this thing, Dog Brain needs a little Cat Brain tempering.  Go for it, but set yourself up to succeed well with less rather than aim for more than you can handle in your first try.
